Reading the spec's greasyshaft posted in post#9 states its specific for the bushing and splines.
The Yamaha waterproof marine grease I referred to was recommended at a Yamaha dealership and will NOT throw off. Its been at least 3 years with it on there, no issues. However, it does NOT say on the container anything about splines/bushings..With that said, it should be greased at least yearly...
As for grease #2, per the product application(from that link):
"Provides water resistance, rust protection, lubrication and heat resistance. Specially designed for 4-stroke oil pump seals, drive shaft splines and drive shaft bushing area. For 4-stroke and 2-stroke applications."
So that's good for both..
