Yamaha 2.5hp 2007 outboard.

I bought a Yamaha 2.5hp outboard and the engine runs fine and the prop spins but it does not give enough power to move the boat while engaged in the forward position. It appears to have plenty of power and churns the water with what appears to be violent force but the boat itself will only move about .5mph which is hardly noticeably. Is there something wrong with the clutch or the gear mechanism?? thanks for all the help!!!

2.5 hp motor is not much of a motor to push a boat.
could be you have too big of a boat for this little motor and prop to do much with.

And need to make sure prop is below the bottom of boat
