      a difinative answer we will probably never get.
      the general concensus 20 years ago was a more consistant cooling.

      but it is what it is and nothing we can do other than be aware that this is how it is.

        Yamaha does some stuff that can defy all known logic.

        If X number of parts are needed to perform a function, then X plus Y parts will be used.

        They seem to be stuck in their motorcycle heritage past.

        Hey, if one carburetor will work just fine on a V6 motor, let's use six of the buggers plus all of the crap needed to link them together.

        Permanent magnet generators were replaced on automobiles decades ago. Yet Yamaha's latest and greatest offerings still incorporate PMG's for electrical generation. They tout a 70 amp output as being mind boggling. Yet, small belt driven generators will easily double that output, using less weight and less parts. Not to mention that a Rube ****berg cooling system is not needed.

        Great craftsmanship.
        Marginal design.
        Crappy documentation.
