In preparation for repainting the lower unit of my '86 150, I removed one of the two metal cover plates that are on both sides of the lower unit. Now after many attempts to replace this cover plate, held in place with one horizontal screw on the aft end oft he plate, I am getting really frustrated about having such problem with something that should be simple. I can see that I need to catch the lip on the forward part of this cover underneath the motor casting and that I need to compress the two little springs at the front, but just can't seem to make it work. Am I missing something? Anyone else who has taken off this cover plate have any hints or tips?
