I have a 2002 F9.9CE/F15ELHA 4 stroke and I have a problem with the underside of my Bottom Cowling making contact with the upper side of the Steering Bracket. There seems to be only 2-3mm therefore the slightest vibration during use results in contact.
When I have looked at other similar engines there seems to be a wider gap between the 2 surfaces (approx 10mm) and I am wondering if there is wear in support bushes within the outboard.
On further inspection now that I have the boat in my shed, I have removed the 2 lower mounts (66M-44551-00-4D) holding the rubber bushes
(66M-44557-00-00 ) to see if they have failed, but they seem to be in good order. In addition the mount damper (682-44555-30-00) seems to be ok as well.
The only other things that could be worn are the Nylon washers
(90386-30M60-00 & 90209-40008-00) at either end of the steering bracket shaft that runs vertically down the main casing body.
These also look in reasonable condition.
Is there anything else that could be worn that will have a effect on reducing the distance between the lower cowling and upper steering bracket.
I am also wondering if the (66M-44514-00-4D MOUNT DAMPER, UPPER SIDE)
could be worn. To investigate this I would need to remove the power unit which I would rather not have to unless a certainty to have a failure in this damper.
Sorry its a bit of a saga however any advise would be welcome.
Thank you !
