My tilt and trim works intermittently. If I Tap the motor with a wrench or hammer it works for a couple of times then sticks again. I understand this is most likely the brushes in the motor aren't always making contact. Can I just replace the brushes as they are about $30 each for the two required? If I pull the tilt and trim motor to work on it, do I have to bleed the system or can I just pull the motor, repair it and replace it? An OEM tilt and trim motor costs over $650, and after market is available for around $220. Same question about bleeding or complications I haven't thought of. If its just a matter of pulling the motor and putting a new one in its place, I'll try to do it myself. If it requires a lot of skill and specialized equipment I'll take it to a certified Yamaha Mechanic. The tilt and trim relay was replaced last year and since just tapping the motor lightly corrects the problem for a couple of cycles it must be the brushes. Any comment, advice or help is greatly appreciated. My next step will be based on replies.
