  • F225 rpm problem

I have a F225 that sat up for a couple of years. After putting it on a different boat the motor won't turn over 4300 rpm's under load. If I put it in neutral, it will go up to 6200 rpm's. However when the boat is under way 4300 rpm's is all it will do. I still 25 to 35% throttle left for acceleration when it reaches 4300 rpm's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

could be propped wrong for the hull.
    could have clogged injector/VST screens.
    could be both.
anyone that would free rev an engine to 6200 RPM should put the wrenches down and back away slowly and call a professional.
    just my opinion.
in N you could toss 3 plugs in the creek and still hit close to 6000 RPM.
pointless and possibly catastrophic but possible.

      free rev

I didn't hold the throttle open at 6000. I just gave it a quick rev to see if it would surpass 4300 rpm. I will check the VST filter and the injectors. I already checked the prop. It is the same prop that the dealer sets the boat up with. Thanks for the info.

different hulls will require different props.
there is NEVER a need to rev an engine(gas) with no load.
        some diesel engines however do.
but this is NOT a diesel.
overpropped and it simply cannot reach its rated RPM.

          Resolution

I forgot to post the results. It turns out that I had a bad coil wire, and was only running on five cylinders. Thanks for the information Rodbolt17.

            simply not possible.
its a waste spark ign.lose a coil and you lose two cylinders.
            1-3,2-4,5-6.

            secondary wires are not replacable.

that's why 3 ign coils can spark 6 cylinders.
the cylinder that sparks on compression stroke and the other cyl at TDC ex stroke both fire.
