  • Proper compression testing for OX66?

    I'm familiar with general compression testing techniques, but primarily in regards to stern drive engines. When testing (say a 2000 or 2001 250HP) the engine, am I correct in assuming that I DO NOT want to shut off the fuel since the cylinders won't be getting any lubrication? If so, does flipping the "kill switch" turn off the fuel, or just the spark? Thanks!

    1982 Grady Weekender/Offshore (removed stern drive & modded to be an OB)

    Run the motor until it is hot
    Remove all plugs
    Battery fully charged
    Throttle wide open
    Kill switch pulled
    Install the pressure gauge
    Crank the motor until the pressure stops rising (key switch or remote starter switch)
    Record the values for one through six

    Enough residual lubrication will remain the motor so you don't have to worry about it getting fuel/oil

      Thank you, Boscoe, for the detailed response. If you were to do it on a cold motor, would you do anything differently?

      Just for future reference, do you happen to know if the kill switch pulls spark AND fuel? EDIT: Never mind - your last sentence gave me the answer.
