missing serial numbers

hello. i am hoping that someone out the might be able to get me out of a hole. i have brought an yamaha 60 hp. proberly built in the 1980's with all of its serial numbers missing.
i have contacted the police. if i some how manage to keep hold of it, any ideas how i can work out the year/model number.
a dealer has told me its a yamaha 60 . F 2 stroke.
