  • 200 HPDI power loss at high RPM

Always welcome the sound advice from this forum.
Changed all fuel filters in May this year including VSP filter, the one at the bottom of the tank.
Went out today and got up to 38RPM but when I tried to go high there was no response, maintained the 28 MPH on the dial.
Do I have to change ALL those filters again ?
Its a fuel issue, no doubt, I'm just wondering if there is a sequence of filters I can change and then try it.
    Thanks in advance

Monitoring fuel pressures should tell you where the problem is.
That is a lot better than guessing

      Thanks for replies.
Boat is used regularly. Racor was changed at end of season last year, 100 hours on it since then, I am going to change it this week.
How do I check out fuel pressure ?
      Thank you

lap top with the Yamaha software hooked up for the high pressure ( or voltmeter from what Rodbolt17 said, but I do not remember the ranges) and gauge on the lower pressures while running at problem RPM

So, changed all fuel filters on the recommendation of my Yama guy. I had over 80 hours on the VST filter and the other filters - all new now.
And still have a problem !
Wont hold the RPM's - still feels like a fuel starvation issue
Looks like its heading into the shop - unless you can give me words of advice.
          Thanks

BRP diagnostics makes a nice kit.
or you can get a service manual and monitor the HP sensor with a volt meter and some pins.

200 HPDI power loss at High RPM

Had same problem with my 2004 200 hp HPDI and it ended up being a basket filter in the high pressure fuel pump which was not indicated in the parts Manuel, cost me $1.50 for the filter at a Napa Parts store

Not sure I know where that is, latest is that fuel injectors are out and have been sent to FL for cleaning, will post this week with latest. Interested to hear about that $1.50 filter.
                      Thanks

Staying on the same subject - a reminder - cant get above 40-45 RPM, 30 MPH. Cahnged all fuel filters including VSP, took into the shop, Fuel injectors sent to Florida for cleaning, report shows that they needed doing. New plugs today ! Guess what - cant get above 42RPM and heres the rub, when I try to rev the thing up in neutral it cuts out, could that be related to my high end RPM issue ?
                        HELP ME !!!! please

no , you cannot rev a HPDI motor in neutral, it cuts out cylinders.

Apparently this was not a Yamaha shop you took it to, and they did not run the motor after the fix

Did you get a print out of a run they tried, seems like if there is a problem with rail pressure they would see it

                            Terminology was obviously wrong.
When I push the button in on the accelerator and shift the stick forward it cuts out. Always been able to do it before.
I will ask if they are a real yamaha place but the fact that they advertise that way and sell new yamaha's and have recommendations from other yamaha owners leads me think they are.

what did they have to say when you told them it was still doing the same thing?
Did you ask if they ran the motor after the repair?

In neutral the motor will not rev up unless the motor does not know it is in neutral
