serial/model number missing.

I'm looking at purchasing an 8hp Yamaha four stroke, but the serial number/i.d. number is missing from the transom braket. Is this number located elsewhere on the motor? I'm trying to confirm the year of manufacture. Thanks.

Look on the block, in the vicinity of the starter motor if equipped, for a round decal. It will be black with a white bar through the middle. On that white bar will be some numbers. What are those numbers?

Is this a two stroke or a four stroke? What year is the seller saying that it is?

This is an 8 hp four-stroke manual start (carbureted), being sold by a local dealer on consignment. Dealer 'thinks' it is a 2008 motor. Certainly looks in great shape. Just seems a bit suspicious that the label should be scraped off.

found the round tag on the block of this 8 hp outboard. Number is 1013925.

Could you tell me any info such as date of manufacture, from this number? Couldn't find anything online

This will be tough. There were so many different F8's made over the years.

Is there not a date of manufacture on the opposite of the motor from where the main sticker would be?

There are T8's and F8's. If this is a circa 2008 F8 then the main prefix might be 60R. Following that would be an S, an L or an X denoting the drive shaft length.

Put this all together and the complete ID would be something like 60RL 1013925.

Call Yamaha customer support and give them this number. See what they can tell you. If they don't recognize it have them try an S or an X in place of the L. Once they find your motor they can give you a bit of history about it.

The stickers don't just fall off. In fact, they can be difficult to remove. I would be suspicious also.

Goodday, thanks for allowing me to post. I am having difficulty with an ownership issue, the situation is this:

My uncle passed away and did not leave a will yet his brother was responsible for his last belongings and he decided to pass on 2 yamaha boat motors to me, this happened some years back and I unfortunately have not been able to use the motors (as they did not come with boat!!) sadly I haven't been able to obtain a boat. So I have recently decided to sell them.
The one is a Yamaha 15hp and
Yamaha 3:5A I'm told a 2hp motor.
When selling the buying accepted the amount of R5k for both and only asked of a copy of my Id book which I gave him so he paid me but only R3000 zar and then said that in order to receive the balance I must provide proof of ownership.
So i contacted the uncle whom i received goods from he wrote a letter stating that I received the motors as an inheritance and that I was now the owner.
Great, I thought but that was not to be the case...
Now the buyer said that the serial numbers weren't on the letter so still no payment. And the worst part of it is my uncle hasn't a clue as to where he could get the numbers other than the motors themselves.
Right that should not be too difficult the buyer can give me those and then I can give them to my uncle and he then writes another letter and all should be fine, right?
Well still waiting for numbers from the "buyer".....
What can I do???
