Tilt Trim Will Not Trim

The tilt trim switch on the side, flush mount control for my year 2000 200HP HDMI will tilt fine, but will not trim down except randomly. The trim switch on the motor itself and at the bow both work fine.

I had this same problem about 5-6 years ago, ordered and installed a new switch assembly, which solved the problem. Is there any way to service this switch rather than replace it again?

I will comment that this boat/motor is used at a cabin in N. MN for 5 months each year and then only on weekends, and I would think the switch should remain trouble-free longer that it has. Is this a recurring problem with the Yamaha tilt/trim switch or is that the normal life expectancy?

I have read that some can be opened up and cleaned, but have not done it myself or know if yours can be.
All you can do is check it out to see or just replace with new and then play with the one you pulled
