85 yam 2 stroke impeller

when replacing impeller what else should you buy to go with it . i am new to out boards and boating.took boat out first time ever period and an alarm was going off and no water coming out of engine, guy told me it seems like a bad impeller,it almost sounded like a cars fly wheel when starting it did kick over thu and continued to alarm, also kind of like a silent back fire combustion.its a 1993 85tlrr 2 stroke.

I'd buy the entire water pump kit and the plastic water pump body, new thermostat and pressure control valve....replace it all while you're doing it....
