I have a problem where my motor only runs 2700 rpm and about 8 mph while in forward and it will run 5500-6000 while in neutral with no load on it. I had it in the shop before and they replaced the fuel filter and some fuel lines and it fixed the problem before(it was surging and running about 4400 rpms not bogging at 2700). Needless to say its back at the shop again and they replaced another main fuel line this time. Is there anything else that could be causing the motor to run at 2700? The shop still didn't water test it yet, also they cleaned the carbs guy said they were really dirty in the jets. I thought the fuel filters were supposed to stop the debris from getting into the carbs?

revving it in neutral test nothing at all, and in fact, should not be done, let the shop deal with it, dirt can block jets even with filters. -
Thanks ausnoelm. I know it's really not a good practice to rev the motor but I was running out of options and this boat is driving me nuts. I wish I knew a little more about outboards so I could do the work myself. I'll post back when the shop gets back to me.Comment
