I am purchasing a 2004 40hp 4 stroke. It will be rigged on a small boat with a portable 6 gal gas tank. Should I insist the dealer install a water seperator? The boat doesn't currently have one. Thanks!

Never know and wouldnt hurt to ask ..would be great of them but they will probably consider it an extra....worth the 40 bucks to DIY as we live in a very humid part of the world.mount it easily accessible and protected from the elements if possible as they rust faster than they need to be changed.

Phil,
If you're gonna get one, get the kind that has a see-thru bowl at the bottom. I believe Racor makes one. That way you can just look and easily see when there is water in the fuel, and drain it directly from the bottom of the bowl.
Good luck ,
