T60TLRD not charging?

I have an 05 T60. Does anbody know if this will run without the battery hooked up? If the motor was charging shouldn't I be able to unhook the battery while the engine is running? I put a volt meter on the battery terminals and it shows around 13 volts running or not. Shouldn't the voltage be higher if the motor is running? Ay help would be great

if you unplug the battery it should do one of two things.
die or burn up the regulator/rectifier then die.
cycle the trim full up and down a few times,this will lower the charge on the battery.
while engine is off attach voltmeter observe reading.
it should be about 12v.
now start the engine and observe it,should be above 13v.
