  • Guage reading

what should the trim guage on a 2011 f 150 read if the trim sender is unhooked.

my trim guage reads full up off the scale with engine in any position. i disconnected the sender at the motor with the pink and black wires and it still reads full up.

i have ohmed the sender and there is a difference at various positions through the travel of the sender.

this @#$%@#$ is driving me crazy. it doesnt matter unless it doesnt work.

The sensor is effectively a spring loaded rheostat. When the motor is up, the sensor is in the spring returned position. If the sensor mounting/adjustment screws are loose the spring takes over no matter where the motor is.

Sounds like a bad connection possibly on the backside of the gauge.

I have yamaha analog gauges. I understand the sender operation. If I were to jump the wires between the pink and black would that make it go down. The sender tab is in correct position sender tight and moves freely.
Just don't want to buy a sender if its another problem.
        Thanks for your help.

every month or so, give the sender a dose of fluid film.
