1 year ago I bought the engine with the head already removed. I installed the head at that point, and did not re-torque the head bolts, (my lack of knowledge) last weekend I noticed water in the oil. I removed the head, it's going to machine shop to be checked for flatness & re-surfaced if necessary. I ran a M9X1.25 tap in all the cylinder block head bolt holes and noticed all of them had inserts in them, I also noticed that all the inserts seem to vary in the depth they were installed. I then ran a die nut over the best looking old head bolt ,and noticed that in (5) of the (10) holes the head bolt is rather loose once completly threaded in.
Are inserts or heli-coils standard from the factory?
What can I do about the loose head bolt cylinder block holes?
It appears that the loose ones have the insert installed very deep, could I attempt to install a shorter insert over top of the exixting one?
Please advise & Thanks in advance,
F. Owens
