Corrosion on upper casing 9.9 hp four stroke

Has anyone any idea on how to treat corrosion on the upper casing of a Yamaha9.9hp four stroke. Mine has now got to the stage where there is now a hole in the casing. otherwise it runs well
The outboard is now 16 years old should I bite the bullet and purchase another?
