    Oil Warning 2002 F115

    Motor ran fine yesterday plus two test runs post replacing the ECM because of a jammed IAC valve.

    Went to flush the motor this morning and started fine with higher RPM but after the RPM settled the oil warning light and buzzer came on. Shut the motor down and tried again with the same result. Checked oil level and it is full. Tried once more and lifted RPM the buzzer stopped but the light kept flashing.

    Plugged in the diagnostic and nothing showed, did not run the motor though.

    don't know why the oil alarm triggered, but once the alarm sounds even if oil pressure resumes to an acceptable pressure and the audible shuts off.
    The oil lamp will continue flashing until the key switch is cycled.

      Couldn't be a simple fix like the sender could it ? looks like I need a new oil pump.

      I guess I should be thankful it happened in the driveway and not at sea.

      Just tallied up the cost of the IAC/ECM issue and I cant see this one being cheap either.

        In the end we removed the powerhead and replaced the oil seals.

        Motor ran fine, 5 days on the water no problems at all. I get home last night and flushed the motor and the oil warning sounds again. Shut it down and restarted it twice and got the warning to stop. One restart it took a few minutes before it sounded.

        Cant understand why this would resurface ?

          I just went through this with my 2000 F115, completely intermittant. Pull the powerhead and change the oil pump, they are becoming slightly problematic. If you repair it now, you avoid the need to rebuild the powerhead too. If you hook up a mechanical gauge and watch the oil pressure right after start-up, you will notice the oil pressure does not get high and the delay in the alarm is something like 30 seconds. So about the time the engine idles down, the alarm will sound. Mine would alert after first start and I could allow it to run for about a minute like that and then shut it off. I could restart and not have a problem for the rest of the day. It took some searching to discover the problem, but all is well now!

              rodbolt, how could i find out if mine should have been covered under warranty? 2000 f115 and I can't remember the model code

              I had the powerhead pulled and pump replaced at a local yamaha dealer, so it was documented and I definately PAID!

                  Ran the motor on the weekend - Alarm sounded on first start , shut it down and restarted did this 3-4 times and finally alarm didn't sound. Motor ran fine all day and again yesterday plus at home with the earmuffs. Have taken it to the tech today to see what they have to say. I would say I'm looking at having to replace the oil pump being a known fault and seems to be the only other explanation. A bit frustrating for all when they look at it and no alarm.

                    Workshop had my motor for two days ( ran the engine a few times ) and they couldn't get the alarm to sound. Used the boat yesterday and no problems, YDIS program shows no faults.

                    I guess like Doug said probably best to replace the oil pump, and put my mind at rest. Tech did comment that he could hear the oil pump, pretty much normal for an engine with this amount of hours on it. I have no idea what that sounds like just used to how it has always sounded and it's no different to me but I have nothing to compare it to.

                      when you find a gibberish to English translation, let me know.

                      you simply cannot,will not ,never ever "hear " the oil pump.

                        Rodbolt,

                        Appreciate your comments, would you still suggest that I replace the oil pump , given the history of these ? - ie recall/known fault. Doubt I would get anywhere with any sort of claim give the age on the motor.
