  • Adjust trim tab on F40 40 HP tiller

    Hi,

I have a Yamaha F40 bought in 2011. I need to adjust the trim tab. I can't find any information on how to unscrew it exactly. There is a screw on top, and another one under. The one on top is tricky to get to as you need to go down a hole. I don't even have the tool to do it. The one under the trim tab leaves almost no space for a socket and looks like it might be metric, which I don't have.

So, I guess I'd like to know what screw I need to unscrew.

    Thanks

You'll need the appropriate size socket with an extension to access that zinc trim tab bolt...Most right hand rotation prop motors will require the trim tab fin to be turned to the starboard/right looking at the back of the motor,,,some Loctite is good on those bolt threads to prevent loosening and loss of your trim tab...Good Luck...

      Thank you for your reply.

So, is it the top bolt or the one underneath?

Someone told me the top one is for the ventilation button zinc, whatever that is. Well, I can see that button between the top bolt and the bottom trim tab zinc, but I don't know what it does.
