Help installing timing chain in XVS650AL bike

Hello. tx in advance for any help/suggestions. New user of this forum here. Not sure if this is the correct place to post, if this is not appologies in advance.

I had to replace crank shaft in my '99 v-star classic (XVS650AL). I now need guidance on how to properly install the timing chain.

never done it on a bike.
I have done it on a few EFI 4cyl waverunners.

first one I did was one a friend dissasembled.
on the dissasembly page it said carefully mark both cam gears BEFORE removal.
I asked him about the marks.
he replied"what marks".
things got interesting from there but it did work.
