engine starts and runs fine. Then just shuts down as if pulled kill switch. Engine starts right back up then under load shuts down again. Can happen at beginning of trip, end of trip twice up to several times. Used to happen infrequently(maybe once a year) then lasy year almost every trip By end of year. Mechanic asked yamaha and they have no suggestions.

replaced fuel lines, ran engine bypassing ignition by using key to harness(mechanic) vst ok. Rail pressure good

    Anybody experience this?

    two things

run the blinky light..and put a fuel pressure gauge on the VST tank and make sure you don't lose fuel pressure....if no issues there do some DVA testing and look at ALL wire connections...I use "deoxit" for FI systems..makes um keep ticking !!!!OOPS !! almost forgot...always,,,always check the motor kill/lanyard switch first...like on a marine motor made !!!!!

typically your either running out of fuel or you have a loose wire/poor ground someplace.

the ign system on that motor is self powered.
the injectors and fuel pumps must have 12 volts.

        Thanks

we checked the fuel pressure - I will have mechanic recheck the grounds

Ignition good because we bypassed that on one test and it repeated.

Its odd because sometimes happend on way out, other times way in, and infrequently not at all. Hasnt happened in backbay but i dont run extended times there. Just in open water it seems.

The symptoms started maybe 5 years agon only once and awhile and on way in from fishing maybe 15 miles offshore. Restarted and ran fine rest of way

Now its more frequent-almost everytrip. Boat isnt in yet for year so dont know yet for this year

What else have you done to service fuel system ??

have you monitored fuel pump voltage at shutdown?
have you monitored ECU voltage at shutdown?
have you monitored injector 12V at shutdown?
typically if its fuel you will see a pressure drop to 10 PSI or less at shutdown.

will do waiting on radar to get fixed and coat of wax and ready to drop

                Will do more testing then

                  Problem solved I hope

Finally agreed to cut small piece of floor to pull the pickuptube drill a hole in side and reinstall. 2 trips out no shutdowns , ran 10 miles each way , now will have to test on a longer trip

Took boat out longer recently about 30 miles RT in rough seas with no issues.

                      Huh ??

did you have a fuel pressure drop before..OR is this a Fluke ???

No mechanic checked fuel pressure while under loan and it was good

have rune it 6 times since 9/27 and no issues.
Trips average 10 miles each way

did the mechanic monitor rail pressure AT the RPM and load that you experienced the failure?
                          most likely not.
