Pro50 P50TLRS Lower Unit replacement

I need a lower unit for a Pro50, P50TLRS (1994), 6H5 L 517016. Have been told the lower unit was unique for that year (1994), but that it was used on also the 40hp. I found a P50TLRU (1996) with power head problems, so will that lower unit be a direct swap into my 1994 or can I take the 1994 top end and put it on the 1996?
