Yamaha 350 V8 outboard trim guage

My Yamaha 350 V8 has the Yamaha square digital gauges, and my engine trim indication recently stopped working, the bars showing the motor as fully up position, and not moving when the motor is trimmed down. I tried putting the engine fully down, and then zeroing the guage, and now the indication is showing fully down, and doesn't change when the engine is trimmed up. I had a look at the plastic trim sender finger, and it moves up and down when the motor is trimmed. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

most likly the trim sender failed.
easy to test with a service manual and a digital multi meter.
