Hesitation WOT 9.9 1996

Have some trouble with a Yamaha 9.9 1996. When I try to give WOT, it will hesitate and not increase rpm. At idle its great. Easy to start, too. Changed the spark plugs, had the carburetor in pieces, everything looks ok.

If I eventually get it to high rpms's, it will still hesitate. When I go off the throttle and on again, the engine stalls.

Anyone have a clue?

Thats usually starving for gas, check fuel pump, filters and fuel hoses.

I would also check the reed valve assembly to be sure the valves are not sticking. The 9.9 reed valve assembly can be replaced on some 9.9's( I have been told and also researched it on the net) with the reed valve assembly for a 15 HP and essentially upgrades the 9.9 to a 15 HP.
