  • 1995 70hp 2 stroke power pack ignition leads and firing order?

after some testing i replaced the CDI power pack. after connecting all the wires, there are a set of 3 wires coming out of the CDI going to ignition coils for each cyclinder. they have small label on it 1 2 3.

1 is longest wire, 2 shorter and 3 shortest, after i connected them to 1,2,3 cyclinder (from top to bottom), only the top cyclinder firing. when i touch the boots for the spark plug my hand feel the zap but bottom 2 cyclinder not working.

just wondering do i connect 1 to top coil, 2 to middle and 3 to bottom ?

    one goes to the top.
    two goes to the middle.
three your stuck with but at least that one is easy to figgure out .

why did you replace the CDI originally?

my bottom 2 cyclinder had very weak spark, tested stator and coil they ok so we suspect is CDI. but after replaced its still the same. gonna need mechanic to have a look again, may be timing ?

the CDI amplifys NOTHING, weak voltage in = weak voltage out.
all tests need to be done with the correct peak reading,NOT true RMS reading, meters or adapters and test both loaded and unloaded.

how are you measureing this weak voltage on the bottom two cylinders?

at least now you own a spare CDI.

on that engine the CDI and the crank position sensor "make" the spark for #2 cylinder.

pulser coil only "trigger" spark for 1 and 3 cylinders.

stator charge coils provide the CDI with its output voltage for all 3 cylinders and must be checked into and out of the CDI with the correct equipment and both loaded and unloaded.

typically you will see a 3-10V drop acrossed the CDI unit.
