115hp 2-stroke tacho

Hi I have a 1994 115HP 2-stroke which the tacho is not working, I would like to know if there is a way to fault find what is faulty, the gauges or CDI? is there a voltage i can read off the tacho signal wire?? or do i need a new gauge to test??

if you have a meter that reads mega hz, or rpm signals, test the green wire coming out of the tach. make sure there is 12v on the yellow wire at key on, and make sure there is a good ground on the black wire..
