  • 40hp no voltage to trim switch or 703 box??

Need some help. Was firing up my '99 40hp 2stroke for the first time this spring. It turned over a few times, the click--nothing. No power to the con*****er, gauges and the trim button on engine doesn't work as well. I have 12v to everything, and I found one 20AMP fuse in the engine housing that looked ok. (found a spare 10AMP in there as well, and tried that just in case--same problem). Is there more than one fuse in these two strokes? for the life of me I can't figure out what is going on.. Throttle is in neutral--jiggled it--but even if that micro switch is shot the trim button on engine should work?

Any ideas are appreciated... ps. anyway to jump the tilt motor? manual release bolt it frozen...
    Thanks!

check all your battery cables and connections.
you lost voltage into the engine.

I think I am good there---I was trying to start the engine and had turned the key a few times, then on the next turn... nothing. I didn't move any cables, etcl and the connections were good. will try replacing fuse with a new one and see what happens.. just not sure if there is more than one fuse. or is there a relay that I might have blown that would affect both the starter/control box and the trim switch?

there should be power from the starter solenoid main battery cable to the tilt & trim through an inline fuse if thats ok i would check the red 12v wire from the control box to the lume coupling to see if you have continuity. the red wire carries 12v through the lume to the key switch then through the brown wire to the bridge starter solenoid. if there is a brake there is another way round the problem without having to run a separate 12v line to the coupling.

Do as Rodbolt said and clean battery cables or do a voltage drop test.
Battery just gave it up or a cable or cable connection.
Voltmeter will show where problem is under load

This is the last time I question the advice on this board---sure enough, my negative battery cable was shot. It didn't look like it at all, but just a little wiggle and I got voltage. Thanks again ! next time I'll remind myself I am not as smart as I think I am...

              we all do it.
sometimes ya gotta check both the ON/OFF switch and the torque on the loose nut behind the helm.
