6553.5 Default Hour Reading on 01 150 HPDI

I bought a boat with an 01 HPDI on it and when the mechanic ran the computer it came back with 6553.5 hours on the motor. Actual hours are likely closer to 478.

Heard that this may be normal as early HPDI's ECU's were not programed to record hours and computers default to the 6553.5 number.

Is this correct or is it indicative of an ECU failure?

not the first one I have seen do that.
however it doesnt do anything as far as engine running.
