Maximum RPM

I am just wondering what is the maximum RPM is for a 2001 250 OX66? I recently purchased the motor and put it on a 24' center console. I would appreciate any input because I don't want to over rev it while finding the right prop. Thanks

HI, Check the owners manuel, it will be clearly stated. If you do not have one, go to Yamahas' website, you can view it there and also order one if you like.

I just looked at the owner's manual for your outboard online. Here is the link:

Take a look at the specification data on page 69.
The max rpm RANGE for your motor is 4500-5500. The max hp is 250 @ 5000 rpm.
Some owners like to run at absolute max (5500) - personally, I like to run right at mid-range for max.
Also, there should be an over-rev limiter built into the electronic ignition of your motor, and it probably kicks in at around 6000, I would guess.
