Oh The Pain....

Hey guys,
licking my wounds here... Have a 2012 F15-SEHA
( that's a 15 hp short shaft electric start tiller model)
and managed to strike a rock in a river, at speed, causing significant damage to the lower unit base 'fin'. took a 2 inch chunk out of the fin and bent it a bit to one side. ( hurts to even tell you about it) I have not seen any leaking oil. As i headed back with my tail between my legs, the Yam was smooth with no apparent vibration or cavitation.
The prop shows marks on the edges as well, but not torn.
What is a ball park guess of cost for replacing this lower unit housing?
Taking it to my Yamaha Dealer Monday...

Been running outboards of all sizes for 25+ years, and this is the first, and worst i have ever damaged a lower unit.

Go ahead open season, i deserve it.

check the propshft to make sure its not bent.

if its not bent its cosmetic damage.

most good prop shops can fix it if it bothers you.

I am in hopes that nothing else is bent!!
The prop moves freely with no binding, and for the impact, did very little to the prop blades.
It was me being careless, and for that i pay the price. Another lesson learned.
Had I not through bolted the 15... i fear she would have jumped ship in the blink of an eye... Thank goodness it did not because I dont think divers or anyone would have been able to recover it in the Murky water and severe current. Could have been worse
