  • What to expect,, new to me

    Hello,
I just purchased an old Grady that has a 2004 130 HP V4.

I was hoping you folks could tell me what the RPM's should be WOT and cruising?

What do you think the fuel consumption/ hr will be?

    Thanks,

Assuming it's a Yamaha 2 stroke, then 5500 RPM's at WOT and about 13 GPH fuel usage at WOT....check Yamaha Outboard Performance Bulletins for more info regarding MPG, GPH, etc. for your boat/motor rig...

      Yes, it's a 2-stroke.
Ouch, I was hoping it wouldn't be that thirsty.
(not that I will be wot all that much )
      Mostly *****ing

      Thanks,

Rule of thumb is 10% of HP rating is the WOT fuel consumption, but you need to do as he said and look up your boat/motor set up and see what it says at different RPM

          Been busy.
I took the boat out for a shakedown cruise today.
WOT the digital tach said 48-4900.

          The digital speedometer said 40

          The Garmin GPS said 32

40 is a nice round number

most would want it to be closer to 5500 with the load you normally run.

Were both reading in nautical miles per hour or at least the same one way or the other?

Was there a current that would throw things off that far

I justed looked at the prop, it's a 19p,,, I suppose I could get another prop to get my rpm's higher,,, but I'm not looking to go faster I want to baby the engine... so isn't 49k easier on her than 55k?

I will have to check again the next time I am out,, I believe both GPS and speedometer are reading MPH.

Current..I never really thought of that.. It wasn't quite high tide.. I may have been going into the current,,,

No major concerns really. I just want her running efficiantely and gentley.

At WOT try trimming up the motor for more bow lift and top speed...my guess is you'll see a few hundred more RPM's when you do that...you're probably O.K. with your present prop, if it came on the rig. Your best MPG/efficiency should be cruising in the 3500 RPM range....your Yamaha Performance Bulletin my reflect that...

                  Thanks

too high of a pitch prop will lug a motor.( hard on motor)
They say to make sure the motor will run up to that RPM, does not mean you have to run it at WOT all the time.
Like he said look up the Yamaha performance bulletin for a rig like this to see what props they used and all the info on RPM
