  • Sediment in lower Unit

F25 ELHZ 2001 Motor. After draining the oil from the L/U and let it sit overnight in a glass jar, I noticed sediment in the bottom of the jar. Just had the Unit tested and the mechanic said there are no leaks. I have changed the oil faithfully every year since year one. What could the sediment be. It looks like dirt, as if someone sprinkled dirt into the oil. It's all at the bottom of the Jar, the rest of oil looks fine.

A small amount of "sediment" or metal particles in the lower unit is normal...hopefully the metal particles are stuck to the magnetic drain plug. If you're really concerned about this maybe consider draining/refilling lower unit twice a year?..
