  • Newbie to outboard motors. Need help installing carb kit!

I was gifted a boat from my grandpa. His health no longer allowed him to use it. Before I even got a hold of the boat it had sat for a year and a half. Motor runs but dogs out if pushed past idle speed. I was told to buy a carb kit for it which I did. I was wondering if anyone had good suggestions on how to install the kit? Like I said this is my first time dealing with any outboard motor. It is a 2005 40 hp 2 stroke motor. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

    Thanks

Most of the time a kit for each carb is not needed when cleaning them.
If you find problems with some parts then you can get what you need separately.

The main thing would be to pick up a Yamaha service manual for your motor and then follow the steps for adjusting things after you clean the carbs up real well.
Do not forget to clean/flush out the lines, fuel pump, primer, and tank.
As anything in them will end up in your cleaned carbs as soon as you crank it back up.

Old fuel is never good for a motor and just adding fresh to old will give you just more bad fuel
