connect controls to 1990 25hp manual start

I am considering the purchase of a 1990 25 hp manual start, tiller control yamaha. I want to be able to connect remote controls for the shift and throttle. Can I do this without a conversion kit? How do they connect to the motor? Reference to a diagram would be great. Thanks.

and two MAR-CABLE-xx-SC(replace xx with length cable needed) control cables.
