Can the 2009 4hp 4stroke be fitted to charge a battery?

The Yamaha website FAQ says this:

"I would like to use my manual-start small horsepower outboard motor to charge a battery. Can my Yamaha’s charging system be modified to be able to do that?

An optional Genuine Yamaha rectifier kit is available for many models. It includes a rectifier, fuse, and wire harness. Installation of this kit will allow an unregulated charge to the battery. Kits are available for the following manual-start engines: 2 Stroke: 8hp, 9.9hp, 15hp, and 25hp 4 Stroke: F8hp, F9.9hp, F15hp, F20hp and F25hp. The part number for this kit is 6G1-81970-00-00. Contact your local Yamaha dealer to purchase this kit."

So, according to Yamaha's website, only 8hp -25hp. Can the 6G1-81970-00-00 be used on the 4hp? Great if yes but if no, is there a kit for the 4hp and what is its part number?
    Thanks,
    tom

      Thank you boats.net,
It is pretty expensive but probably worth it for when i am out *****ing all day. picture attached from this website.

Before i go ahead and order the kit could i please just double-check with you to make sure that kit will work with a 2009? i know from experience that there was a change on these small yamaha's to the current model.

For example this kit is for 4hp and 6hp. Currently the 4hp and 6hp are both 1 cylinder. The older 6hp were 2 cylinder i had a 2003 4-stroke and it was 2 cylinder, the new ones are 1. Although the 4hp 4-stroke have always been 1 cylinder, my 4hp(2009) weighs 50lbs and the new ones weigh 60lbs, so something changed.

This is why i am leary before ordering the kit in case it is only the correct kit for the current version. The older literarure mentions just being able to buy just a rectifier kit to provide 6amps 12volts.

So may i please double check on that for 2009 before ordering? Thanks very much for understanding.

While we're on the subject of these small kickers may i tag on one more question that has been puzzling me for some time? Why are the long shaft models of these SOOOO long? They are not X models so they are not extra long shaft they are L models so are long shaft but on both my 6 and my 4 they stick down much lower than my main motor which is also a long shaft. They eyeball out at about 23 inches close estimate rather than 20. Anybody else ever notice this. i am also attaching a picture of this phenomenon.
      Thanks again,
      tom

          Hi,
Can i drag this up again please?

i went to 2 different Yamaha dealers in my area with this question, both Yamaha factory trained and Yamaha certified 5 star:

The first one said yes this kit will work on a 2009 eevn though a different engine than the current model.

The second one said no it will not work, 2009 different than current model.

i know that the 2009 4hp 4 stroke is a physically different engine than the current model, but can you verify that this kit:
          (6BX-W8130-A0-00 F4/F6 Charge kit)
will work on a 2009 or not?

          Thanks again,
          tom

If the flywheel from the latest F4/F5/F6 will feat your F4 (67D or 68D) cranshaft it must work (but IDK if will feat)

If the flywheel will not feat.., nop, will not work as F4 67D / 68D models doesn´t have magnets on the flywheel .

Even if the flywheel from latest F4/F5/F6 will feat the charging you'll get (Amps/Hr) are VERY low.

                      IMO?

                      Don´t worth it.

                      (I have a F4AMH/F4MH 2007 68D)

                        How to Mount the Stator

2006 (I believe) F4MLHC 68D SN1013855. I've purchased and received the Lighting Coil Kit (new flywheel, stator, regulator, wireing w/fuse) but can not see how the stator should be mounted. I can not find a hole pattern on the motor to match-up with the holes in the stator coil assembly.

                        Thanks for any help!
