Long time reader, 1st time forum poster..
Just bought an Evinrude ETEC 30hp (2010 with 5 year warranty with less than 50 total hours).. She's had 19 good days on the water with me, from dock to up to 20 miles from home and back to dock----no problems.. But, she's also "lived" in the certified repair mechanics place of business for 20 days, as of today.. (leaving me stranded a long way from home the 2 of the last 5 times she's broke down, having to sleep aboard 1 of the 2 breakdowns..In 42 degree weather..)..
Anyway, Big question:
From here on out, I'll be leaving the dock with a 1984 Mariner 2hp, 2 cycle kicker..(less than 30 total hours on her).. I'm wondering what parts should I be carrying with me aboard for "insurance" just in case she "lets me down" as well.. I'm getting ready to head from Sarasota, Fl. to the Fl. Keys in early spring.. I'll be going alone for 10 to 14 days, sleeping onboard or camping ashore on different "mangrove islands" along the way..(and of course---fishing my freakin' brains out)..
I rebuilt the carb last Dec., 2012 with a Yamaha carb kit (6A1-W0093-01), cleaned out the gas tank, replaced the gas lines and replaced the impeller.. Since all of the work was done, she maybe has 10 running hours on her.. She's been flawless during that time..
2 days ago I ordered another carb kit (to keep aboard as a spare), and a new fuel **** as it's now beginning to leak when shut off with gas in the tank.. Also, a new fuel tank (there was a small crack in the original and she was glued and hasn't leaked since the repair) and a new fuel cap assembly..
A friend said to also order a "head gasket repair kit", as insurance and also, possibly a new water pump assembly..
What does "everyone" recommend and it there anything else I should consider getting, to "cover my bases" while going on this adventure of a lifetime..??
Her serial number is:
6A1-068940
(She is a Mariner but, has Yamaha "insignias" stamped / cast on her head and other areas on the engine block.. She's "Made in Japan"..)..
Thanks everyone..
