Mystery FT9.9ELF water/ petrol enters in oil? Power loss

How do I tell if oil is mixed with water or petrol?

Oil has gone brown and cloudy which suggests water, but I can't see any separation after oil change. Also oil seems to maybe smell of petrol. Oil is very thin and not sticky like a new batch, or indeed a well-used old batch.

Other symptoms are huge loss of power, so it's now more like 9.9 rabbits than horses.

Occurred when I accidentally put on full revs for several seconds, and I can't verify whether the oil tester was fully inserted and whether petrol got in there after being dumped by the carbs.

What's your best guess, folks?

p.s. oil change did not solve the problem at all and engine sound is like a diesel tractor, very dull and ultra low revs.

Sounds like you damaged your motor by over-speeding it maybe.
Check compression or do a leak-down test to see if it is mechanically sound.

check spark and timing also.
Check fuel pump to see if it is dumping fuel into crankcase if the other stuff is all good

Thanks, I'm going to start chewing over what you've said.

Don't know if it makes any difference to your analysis but meant to say above 'whether petrol got in after being dumped by carbs' instead of 'whether oil...'. I notice there is a hole where petrol pours from carbs sometimes.

there should never be fuel dumping out of the carbs.
Possibly the float/needle and seat due to trash is not closing off and the bowls overfilling and coming out of the bowl vents.

I would not think much fuel would go into dip stick hole coming out of carbs, but a flooding motor would put a lot of fuel into the cylinders and eventually get into crank case by rings.
But that should not make it brown and cloudy.
may have moisture/water in it also
