I recently purchased a 22 foot blue wave bay boat, and it needs a motor. I found a Yamaha HPDI 200 hp 2000 model motor with 103 hours and includes all guages and wiring harness, guys throwing in hydrolic steering off of the wrecked boat that it's on. The motor sat for five years without running. I have seen the invoice and spoke with the shop that did the repairs, basically rebuilt then entire fuel system. I asked for videos of this motor running and he sent that, with the motor on a hose and it shows all guages functioning properly. I can purchase this motor for 5k delivered to me however, I am scared of the net when it comes to this kind of purchase. My question is, does this particular make and model motor have any inherint problems that I should be aware of and did the motor sitting up for five years hurt it? I would appreciate any feedback or advice on this subject. I don't know a lot about the hpdi motors. Seem very cheap for what it is. Thanks for your response.

Possibly they could run it with the test prop for that motor in a tank, but I would like to have it on a boat where it could be run like it should.
Maybe Rodbolt will chime in on this, but I have read before he is not a fan of buying motors on the net, as you are hoping for the best but who knows what you will get

I've given up on the net, scared to get burned. I found a 2001 Yamaha 3.1 Liter OX66 big block with a fresh powerhead for $6500 with all controls, and digital guages. Six month warranty on the powerhead. I can put my eyes and hands on this motor, is it a good motor? I appreciate you guys help, everyone that sells motors seems to have a bad a opinion of the competitor.

I would never buy a motor I could not run under load at all RPMs to make sure it ran properly, that means on a boat so you can run it.
Might wait for Rod to say something , as some motors had exhaust stack corrosion problems
