please help! i am trying to change impeller and after removing all 9 bolts, the lower unit is stuck. i have used a soft mallet to tap around the seal but still no joy. The propellor side of the seal is open but seems to be stuck some where between driveshaft and back of the leg. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

should be 3 14mm hex head bolts on each side.
two 14mm hex head bolts from underneath, one of which requires trim tab removal to access.
do you use water proof grease on the shaft spines when you reassemble??
its either stuck in the water tube grommet, not bad.
stuck in the shift shaft splines,a pain.
stuck in the drive shaft/crankshaft splines,a royal pain and kinda expensive.

thanks rodbolt17, i have removed 3 bolt each side and 2 bolts underneath and 1 under anode.
i did put grease when i reassemble last time, but not sure what grease i used.
i have been using flathead screwdriver ( squeeze in gap ), but no luck. it's seems stuck around shift shaft spline.
how i make an apart this? i have never done before and there no marine mechanic where i live.
please advice.

if you cannot carefully work it down with wedges, then it gets labor intensive.
700 hours between pump changes is 500 more than reccommended.
now ya see why.
if you cannot seperate it you will need a sawzall with metal blades,an engine hoist to remove the powerhead.
lower unit seals,a drive shaft and a powerhead gasket and oil pump mounting orings.

how I do it?
use a sawzall,go in just under the powerhead adapter, cut the adapter then the drive shaft.
no need to cut the shift shaft.
then remove the powerhead, remove the oil pump.
drill and tap a 3/8thx16 hole in the shaft.
use a stud, nut and large socket and pull the shaft from the crank socket.
may require a lot of heat as well.
then replace the drive shaft.
this will require reshimming of the drive shaft.
then reassemble everything with a good water proof grease.
see what I mean,labor intensive.
all for 5 bucks worth of a good water proof grease.
