  • HPDI Engine Cowling

Good morning all - I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong area or if the answer is already here, but I just found this forum, registered, and for some reason cannot search a thing. I will keep trying but here is what I am searchign for this morning.

I have a 2002 Yamaha VMAX HPDI 200. The engine is in great shape and looks good other than a portion of the engine cowling, which is a separate silver plastic / fiberglass piece that began peeling a few years back. I at one time looked to replace it and it was ridiculously expensive. I tried to paint it, which lasted less than a year and now looks even worse.

Does anyone know a better way to fix this problem, or find one of these used or something? I would appreciate any help and thanks for your time.

I just found the two parts on boats.net - described as the "molding, air duct" and "Louver 2" for the VZ200TLRA. $600 for two plastic parts!

I guess I'm looking for a good way to paint the parts I have to save on the expense, and recommendations on what to use.

Needle in a haystack here but hopefully someone here has come across this problem. I know it was a Yamaha defect. I have seen others the exact same way over the years, and soon after I bought the boat Yamaha redesigned this part and it's paint and color altogether.

The plastic parts have to be cleaned and prepped properly for paint to stick, check with a automovtive paint store for advise on repainting.
