  • Yamaha 40 hp 2008 Y-Cop problem

I need to find a dealer who has knowledge of Yamaha's Y-Cop system to repair an ECU unit. Most dealers I have contacted have not seen this system. The unit I have may need to be reset.

Are you sure the ECU is the problem and not the Y-COP itself?

    What problems are you having?
This would not be something off of a hot motor would it?
    Sorry had to ask

Here is something that shows how they are hooked together

Probably need to do like Rodbolt told you before and look up Yamaha dealer that has a Master tech

I have both keys problem is engine in Russia a customer of mine sent the ECU unit to me no dealers there work on engines. With system connected engine won't start. Disconnect Y-Cop system engine runs to 2500 rpm. I was told by Yamaha tech service this may be simple reset of ecu I am unable to find that tech. You will need to call Yamaha, in order to do a reset on that system Yamaha would need to perform reset on boat with original transmitter and key fobs installed.

Dealer wouldn't be able to help on that, Yamaha would be only one that could, might give them a call.

A Y-Cop 40 is likely a western Europe - purchased engine (YCop is standard fit to all compatible engines here). The fact it is now in Russia blocked at 2500rpm is, shall we say, consistent with it being one of the ship-container-per-week of outboards that get stolen in Western Europe and shipped east. YCop is maybe kinda doing what is was designed to do. I'm not saying your particular ECU is from a stolen engine but the facts are consistent with it being above room temperature.

Lots of stolen outboards on my area either! Mostely four strokes. Thieves donīt even wast time unscreewing bolts Now they cut the stern even if the boat on the water. No only a stolen motor is a useless boat is what they leave.
Everyone knows they go for east EU.
I heard main outboards manufacturers have lots of requests for acessories and wirings for east EU.
About 2 years ago Austrian Police on a casual operation stopped a van on the way to east that was full of outboards from south EU.
Some owners on my area had the rare luck of recover their outboards.

On these days is unthinkable don't have a insurance that does not cover stolen outboards.

Could you please explain your reply? I do understand what you wrote the engine is complete with the YCOP system. If it was stolen how is the ECU disabled? I will pass this information along to my customer if I can get a clear understanding as to why system is off.

                            Thank You
