Thanks again for the help on my Yammie! I have a friend with the same motor as mine. (1999 Yamaha 130 2 stroke). On idle it wants to cut out and the revs drop to abour 4-5 rpm and then after about 10 seconds it cuts out completely. I positioned the primer pump vertical with the arrow pointing towards the motor, I’ve stripped the fuel pump and checked the diaphragm, disassembled the carbs, set the float level, cleaned the carbs (with compressed air), and cleaned the fuel filter, timed and sync-ed the carbs, fitted new NGK plugs, and set the motor up according to the specs given in the service manual. No change!
An interesting thing which may shed some light on this is the if I disconnect the fuel line, (so as to run the motor dry), as the fuel begins to run out, the revs increase to around 1200 rpm and when the fuel is finished it then obviously dies. I put in fresh fuel, pump the primer to firm, (but not hard) and she fires up on the second rev of the starter and idles beautifully for about five minutes and then the trouble starts again. On the water it goes like a Yamaha, PERFECTLY!, with loads of torque and power at most throttle openings, maintains full speed at WOT without a miss, but, when I stop the problem occurs again within 3-4 minutes of idling. Could this relate to a fuel or electrical anomaly?
