  • F150 balancer

Just registered but have used this forum for years and would first like to thank everyone for all the great advice and technical information I have received. I buy all my props, oil and filters as well as parts from Boats . net and they are always great to deal with.
Currently I have a f150 with a 08/09 production date with a little over 100 hrs and while servicing I seem to hear a faint whinning sound I never heard before. I am aware of the nylon gear in the balancer assembly from searching ( GM tried this in the 70's on cam gears and it failed ) but when I bought the motor new I thought Yamaha had it resolved. I am guessing that I have the second revision and not the steel gears used in the third revision. Am I correct here? When did Yamaha start using the 3rd revision in new motors? Thanks Again

GM ran nylon timing gears on various 4 and 6 cyl engines for over 40 years.
    the 3.0 still does.
almost all detroit engines for at least 50 years ran a nylon covered cam gear.
    some still do.
    anyway
    about 08 the -02,about 09 the -03.
still see occasional failures even with the -03.
mine is whining again and its run about 60 hours with a -03.
easy fix and the part is about 330 dollars.
