Fogging oil on four strokes

Hi!

The fogging oil should be used on four strokes motors or not?
A local marine mechanic said that does not advise fogging oil in to the cylinders on 4 strokes motors.

Your opinion guys please!

Fogging is mostly for 2 strokes which have no oil in the crankshaft/bearings area to protect from corrosion, but for 4 strokes in lengthy lay-ups in a humid marine environment some oil in each cylinder through the spark plug holes can't hurt anything. Spray fogging oil in each spark plug hole and crank motor over to distribute a protective film on cylinder walls. Good Luck!

I use a product in the crankcase oil called crankcase store n start.
I use a fogging mixture in the VST on EFI motors.

Now I'm more enlightened about this.

Just found the crankcase stor n start in US ebay but the postage make VERY expensive. $35 just postage! but I'll try to find it here in EU or a similar product.

For EFI I will keep that in mind, for now is not necessary (I hope in the future will be) my F80 is carbed

by the way...

Do you use any product for carburetors?
When I wintersize my outboards or when I know I'll be away for a couple of months I drain the cards and use compressed air to make sure all fuel is removed.

Draining the carbs during extended motor lay-ups is great preventive maintenance...in fact I do it several times a year just to be sure of no water or debris laying in bottom of float chambers.

I had a couple of problems because water in fuel but since I installed the pre fuel filter I'm more "lazy" about regulary carb drain.
That problems disappeared, Fortunately!

I'm more worried when motor is stopped for a "while" because of a dirt jet I may need to rebuild and sync the carbs.

yes. no need to change it come recommissioning time.
we have several boats,mine included, that run less than 20 hours a year.

Thank you Rodbolt. Sorry for asking again. It sounds like the MDR product can be left in the crankcase all year around for rust protection of engines that don't see much use during the boating season. Am I correct in assuming it is ok to have MDR in the oil all the time? Thanks.

the product can be run year round.
does not need to be changed.

I will, from now on, use MDR along with fogging oil only trough the carburetor. I am not sure if that is even needed. Anyway, Thank you for all your en lighting answers.
