Yamaha F225 hp High idle.

I have a 2004 Yamaha F 225 hp that is idling at 1000 rpms on a cold start and then sometimes drops to 700 rpms. After running it on a plane or so than shutting it off and restarting it will idle as high as 1100-1200 rmps at nuetral?

Sometimes it will back down if you shut the key and turn it back on.

This motor has had the necessary recalls (bushing, neutral switch, etc.).

I hooked this up to the YDS software and my TPS voltage fluctuates every once in a while. It is within the range but has seemd to have settled in at around .734ish.

Im getting no error codes. Should I just go and replace the TPS. If I do replace the TPS is it just plug and play or do I have to adjust something?

.73 is on the high side.
make sure the throttle plates are closing correctly, then readjust the TPS to about .7.

It was actually around .771-.781 then I unplugged it and plugged it back in.

Quick question. How do I readjust the TPS? Can it be done with the standard YDS software or should i Have a dealer do it? Also I have access to a parts motor can I just replace the TPS or do you have to make adjustments when you replace the tps?

it can be done with the yds or a digital multimeter.
takes a tamper proof torx driver.
before ya get jiggy, simply make sure the throttles are not sticking.
it changed for a reason.

Due to my lack of mechanical experience for this type of situation I took my boat to an experienced, intelligent, honest, and highly recommended Yamaha mechanic in the Tampa Bay area.

He was able to fix the engine and it now runs perfect.

Diagnosis: TPS and Throttle valve opening was reading high.

Cure: The throttle bodies needed to be synchronized and the Throttle position sensor needed to be adjusted.

This is what was causing the engine idle high.

Basically Rodbolt was dead on..............as usual. Thanks for your help and I hope that this will help someone out who has the same problem.

easy fix.
with wear and age occasionally link and sync have to be done.
TPS gives the ECU throttle valve opening.
once the shutters are set correctly that is when the TPS is set.
you CANNOT use YDS to set throttle angle.

I would gladly pay that instead of scewing it up myself.

and thats why I dont do oil changes or service on my vehicles.
dont have the tools nor training to mess with a 2012 explorer or a 2012 F150.
I am quite sure in 1.5 hours I could create an issue .
