I'm looking for the part # for the shifter safety switch on a 2006 Yamaha 40TLR 2-stroke. It is the switch that keeps the ignition from turning over while the motor is in gear. I believe mine is defective.

Is this a tiller handle model or remote control, if remote what control box do you have?

Uh, I'm looking at a switch sitting at the bottom of the cowling where the engine block sits. The shifter armature actually runs accross it. It is definitely not in the tiller handle itself. I cannot find it on any of the motor schematics at all. Is it something that is added with the tillar handle assembly ?

quite a few of the 3 cyl engines end up with TWO safty switchs.
one mounted on a bracket under the engine hood on the lower stbd side and the other either in the late style tiller handle,704, 6x3 or 704 control box.
the 701 box did not have start in gear protection.
so its quite likly you have two switchs.
closed in N and open in any gear position.
quite simple to test.
