  • Possible Fuel Pump Issue in a 1987 200HP

My 87 has been running fine but after running at WOT the engine starts to surge, then on the weekend loaded up and in rough water the engine was bogging right down as if not getting enough fuel. I got one of the passenger to squeeze the bulb and as they squeezed the engine picked up again and then immediately bogged down once they stopped.

Can I assume it is the fuel pumps that are bad? I was going to run it with an external tank to confirm the rest of the fuel system is OK, but does that make sense?

Could be bad fuel pumps or restriction in fuel supply to pumps.

monitor fuel pressure. vacuum, that should tell you if there is a restriction and proper pressure at problem RPM
