  • digital gauges shutting off

I have a 2004 Pathfinder with a Vmax 150 carb'd engine. The last few trips out the motor would cut RPMs and go into "limp home" mode. When that happened I noticed the digital gauges were off. After some wiggling the key or the lanyard the gauges come back on and the motor returns to normal. Is it safe to assume I need to change the key switch/lanyard or should I look elsewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to make sure if wiggling the switch helped or if it was the lanyard

But I do not see how the lanyard that grounds the ignition would effect the gauges

your loosing the ground or the batt voltage.
the engine will go into rpm reduction if the engine sees low batt voltage and the display will disapear.

Could you give me an idea of where I should look for this problem? So you do not believe it is related to the switch itself?

If it makes a difference when you wiggle ignition switch then I would start there, but a volt meter would be nice to do voltage drop tests starting at battery and going through all fuses and connections if it not the switch
